If you are reading this then Felixstowe BID has a brand-new website, and I am thrilled to see it up and running.
The intention is for the website to be a hub of information for levy payers and a space where we can share news, advice and best practice and I hope you will return to it often and engage with us as we plan for the year ahead.
The dawning of 2022 brings more challenges as Covid refuses to go away. Whilst Plan B had a detrimental affect on our shops, the mixed messages to the hospitality industry saw trade drop off for them too over the festive season.
Felixstowe BID, through its association and membership of larger organisations such as British BIDS and Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, supports calls for more support for businesses from Government, and will aim to keep you up to date with the very latest news on grants and other measures as they become available.
The BID will also work hard to fulfil its key objectives to promote Felixstowe and attract more people to the town and seafront through marketing, events and the Visit Felixstowe website and social media accounts. We want to encourage residents to shop local and for visitors to come more frequently and stay longer, to enjoy everything our town has to offer, whatever the weather.
This year marks the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and plans are already underway for celebrations to mark the event, and the BID is keen to get involved in not only the planning, but also the legacy of the event. We are particularly keen on an initiative to introduce new trees in urban spaces as part of the nationwide Queen’s Green Canopy ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’ initiative and will work alongside Felixstowe Town Council to deliver a planting scheme to mark the occasion.
Other events will be important this year. Whilst we anticipate a return of the big headline events such as the Carnival, Art on the Prom and the Classic Car Rallies, the BID will work to create a more comprehensive calendar to ensure there is always something going on. To that end we are working with other organisation, supporting arts and cultural organisations and are keen to promote our sports and leisure clubs.
This brief overview is intended to give you a flavour of the sorts of projects the BID is getting involved with. If there is a project you feel the BID should be looking at, then please get in touch.
