The Queen's Platinum Jubilee was celebrated in Felixstowe with four days of events, live music, flypasts and a big picnic lunch. Oraganised by Felixstowe Carnival Committee and Felixstowe Town Council, Visit Felixstowe offered a supporting role by promoting the events across its social media platforms. Thursday saw a march through town and proclamation by the Mayor of Felixstowe at the Town Hall before the lighting of a beacon at Landguard Fort. Friday and Saturday saw community groups and bands take to the stage at the Beachside Events Area. On Sunday, the Lions Club of Felixstowe hosted a big picnic lunch at the Leisure Centre.

As summer approaches and Felixstowe prepares for the season ahead, Felixstowe BID and Visit Felixstowe are proud to sponsor planters in this year's Felixstowe in Flower celebration, which will see beautiful displays across the town and seafront. Felixstowe Town Council first introduced Felixstowe in Flower in 1985 to support the community in transforming the town with flowers each summer. In the first year, 60 hanging baskets were sponsored by local firms and organisations and, from these modest beginnings, a comprehensive community scheme has developed. Felixstowe in Flower is a partnership which involves the whole community, supported by sponsorship and encourages people of all ages to care for their environment. The partnership involves local businesses, community groups, schools and individuals, each able to participate and contribute to Felixstowe in Flower in different ways. WE’RE BACK IN BLOOM! Felixstowe in Flower will be launched at The Triangle on 28 May 28, 2022 so pop along and meet the team responsible for this colourful initiative. GET INVOLVED Whether you’re the owner of a glorious garden, sponsoring tub or basket, or entering one of our many competitions, there’s something for everybody to get involved with. If you have a particularly pretty floral display that you wish to share, send your photos to sue.faversham@felixstowe.gov.uk to be featured on our Felixstowe in Flower Facebook page. The Queen's Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated with a four-day extravaganza of events, fun and activities. Thursday, June 2 March through town and official proclamation by the Mayor of Felixstowe. The weekend of celebration begins with a procession of local cadets and other groups from Felixstowe Town Centre at 12.30pm to the Town Hall. Organised by the Royal British Legion, the march will conclude at 1pm with a proclamation from the Mayor of Felixstowe from the steps of the Town Hall. All are welcome to come and show their support. 2pm Jonny Cash tribute band Jax & Co will perform at Ocean Boulevard, adjacent to the Beachside Events area on Sea Road. National Beacon Lighting at Landguard Fort Landguard Fort will be part of the National Beacon Lighting on the evening of Thursday, June 2. The entertainment will start at 8pm with singer Rachel Foskett and the Felixstowe Community Choir before local piper Leigh Adams, plays to the lighting of the beacon at 9.45pm, joining beacons cross the country in the historical tradition of illuminations in celebration of royal milestones. Friday June 3 and Saturday, June 4 On Friday and Saturday of the Jubilee weekend, the beachside events area will come alive with community activities and music from across the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. Entertainment will start at noon on both days until 10pm. The early noon-4pm slots will be filled by community groups, schools and choirs while the nightshift will involve a series of bands and performers recreating the music of the past 70 years. There will also be events on the water. Launched in 2009, the Big Lunch encourages communities to come together and celebrate their connections. Bring your own refreshments and the Lions Club of Felixstowe will provide the entertainment. Felixstowe BID and Visit Felixstowe were proud to host an information stall at the Chairman of Suffolk County Council's annual reception. The event at the Orwell Hotel saw 150 invited guests from across the county gather to help raise funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance. As well as being Chairman, County Councillor and Town Councillor, Graham Newman, is also Chief Ambassador for Visit Felixstowe and can often be found manning the tourist information beach hut on the seafront. "Graham is such a strong supporter of Visit Felixstowe we were only too pleased to join him for his event," said BID Manager Sheline Gledhill. "Visitors were keen to learn about forthcoming events for the Jubilee and many went away with a stick of Felixstowe rock for the journey home."

A giant E aster Bunny and her companion the Ringmaster brought some festive cheer to Felixstowe town centre. Armed with sweets and a bubble machine, the pair delighted shoppers young and old and danced to the tunes of rock 'n' roll band J.S. and the Lockerbillies who were busking in the sunshine. The event was organised by Visit Felixstowe with thanks to all the performers for their time and enthusiasm.

WAMFest returned to the centre of Felixstowe to celebrate International Women's Day. Choirs, solo performers and a ukulele band entertained shoppers and passers by at The Triangle in a full programme of events despite the weather. The event was a collaboration between WAMFest and Felixstowe BID and Visit Felixstowe and also featured craft stalls selling homemade hand crafts and homewares. Th event continued later at the Two Sisters Arts Centre in Trimley St Mary.

As the nation prepares to celebrate the unique milestone of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II becoming the first monarch to reign for 70 years, an extended weekend of celebratory activities is being coordinated by the Felixstowe Carnival Association, Felixstowe Town Council and Visit Felixstowe. Details of the scheduled activities, which will take place over the bank holiday weekend Thursday 2 nd – Sunday 5 th June, are to be revealed in the upcoming Spring 2022 edition of the Town Council’s seasonal magazine. Felixstowe residents are invited to participate in the Jubilee by joining in with local events and sharing the ways they plan to mark the occasion. Street parties throughout local communities are encouraged and Suffolk County Council has waived fees for road closures to enable groups of residents to get together and celebrate with their neighbours (apply via the Suffolk County Council website by 27 th March). Details on how to arrange your own community event or street party, plus information on all the events taking place in Felixstowe across the extended bank holiday weekend will be outlined in the Town Council’s Spring magazine, with more information being added all the time to the Visit Felixstowe website www.visitfelixstowe.org.uk .  The events happening in Felixstowe are also part of this year’s Festival of Suffolk, spearheaded by the Suffolk Lieutenancy, which will be shining a spotlight on all aspects of Suffolk life to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
